ICE STORM

We had an ice storm on Friday.  The nice thing about the ice storm is that the hubbie was home from work by noon.  We were able to start our weekend early!  By noon on Saturday things started to thaw.  The youngest had fun breaking off the ice and eating it.  Still no snow for us.  I'm okay with that the little people not so much.  We still have a few more weeks of winter we shall see what it brings.  I saw plese be nice and warm. 

 

Sweet Little Table

This cute little table sits in our foyer and it needed some tlc.  My Mom gave it so me a few years ago.  It was made by my Dad in his wood shop class at school.  He only went to school until the 8th grade.  The table was made that final year.  I'm not sure of the year...he was born in 1924....sometime in the late 30's.  I love the history of this little piece. 

 

 

My girls went crazy when I pulled out the paint.  "What are you doing this is an antique?"  lol!  Part of me wanted to clean it up and part of me wanted to leave it alone.   I think it came out great!  I'm happy to have the before and after pictures.

Harmony Barber Shop Disney World

Harmony Barber Shop is a little hidden gem inside Magic Kingdom just as you enter Main Street.  I can't even remember how we found out about it before our trip.  I knew we had to go.  We just don't have the money for the other hair place and my girls are 10 and 13.  They just wanted something fun and cute.  We got to the shop on Sunday morning as we entered the park only to find out you needed a reservation....ugh :(.  I didn't see that when looking for information on it.  We started to walk back out and said thank you.  The lady told us to call the Disney line and see if they have any appointments left while we are at Disney World.  I told her this was our last day at Magic Kingdom but thanks again.  Just as we are ready to walk out she thinks she can fit us in....HAPPY DANCE!!!!!  We wait for all the 1st haircuts and 1 Grandpa to finish and it was our turn.  The girls loved it and Dad really loved the price.  Only $5 for each girl.  He was outside the Barber Shop stressing thinking we were going to be paying $50.  LOL!  Each girl got styled and sprinkled with pixie dust. 

 

Disney Merry Christmas

 

Our family Christmas gift was a trip to Disney!  We had so much fun.  We hadn't been in 5 years.  I'll share some more posts of fun things we did while we were there in the days to come.  I made our reservations back in October for the new Little Mermaid Hotel.  The girls were excited!  November came with an email from Disney asking us to call about an upgrade.  We were like whatever and ignored the email and then a week later called.  They explained that we could keep our room at the Little Mermaid Hotel or upgrade for free.  We had some tears from the littlest one in our family.  It was a no brainer they gave us a 1 bedroom villa at the Saratoga Springs Resort for the same price as the value hotel.  FREE upgrade made the parents very happy!  We had a beautiful newly refurbished room that looked across the lake at Downtown Disney....beautiful.  We were more than spoiled.  We are now suffering from our Disney trip is over blues. 

Harry Potter

I started reading the Harry Potter books with my girls and we are loving them!   We are starting book 4 today. We made Hot Butter Beer yesterday and it was beyond yummy.  It was like heaven in your mouth....smooth, sweet, creamy goodness.  We got the recipe from The Disney Diner Blog

My oldest daughter made a Harry Potter water bottle cover.  So cute!

FREEDOM!!!!

Putt Putt

One of our favorite things to do is putt putt.  Syd got 2 holes in 1!!!  We had a great time and next time we will make sure it isn't going to be 103 when we decide to go again. 

 It looked and felt like Africa at 103!

Mother's Day!

For Mother's Day we went to the arboretum in Raleigh.  One of my favorite things to do!  I've been beyond spoiled today by my family....church, hugs & kisses, steak dinner prepared by their hands, new water bottle for the gym, necklace, a jar of encouraging verses, and Starbucks!  What more could a momma want!

My girl LOVES to wear flowers in her hair.  A Pastor at church today even noticed that she didn't have one in today.  A few weeks ago  one of the security men at church said something about always seeing her with flowers in her hair.  It's her thing and I love it!

You Got A Problem?

Yes? I told you I wear the pants in this house.

This made us laugh so hard the other night. Baxter has quite an attitude problem. He does rule the house just a little bit. The hubbie had left his pants on the bed and Baxter just climbed up onto/into them.

Fast forward to December 2011. You should come home. We are near the end. My sister's goal was to have Christmas with everyone at her house. We gave her Christmas...just a little early. Her little town even sent Santa Clause to the house.....there are no words to describe the love and care that her little town showed our family.

She really wanted to make stockings for everyone. She ran outof time... We went to the dollar store and bought the stockings and then we all sat around the table decorating, sharing stories, and just laughing.

One of my favorite pictures from the day. My sister with her Grandson's reading the Christmas Story to her from one of those books you record yourself reading from. There was not a dry eye in the house.

My hubbie and the girls stayed home while I sent to New York. He was able to work from home and homeschool them. He had Rock Star status that week. Look what was next to my side of the bed when I got home.

I was missed.

Blessing Mix

Today we made a Blessing Mix to take to our Keepers group tomorrow. You place a little of each item in a plastic bag and tie on the below meaning of each item.

Bugles: Shaped like cornucopia or Horn of Plenty, a symbol of our nation's abundance.

Pretzels: Arms folded in prayer, a freedom sought by those who founded our country.

Candy Corn: The sacrifices of the Pilgrims' first winter. Food was so scarce that setters survived on just a few kernels of corn a day.

Nuts or seeds: Promise of a future harvest, one we will reap only if seeds are planted and tended with diligence.

Dried fruits: Harvest gifts from our bountiful land.

M&M's: Memories of those who came before us to lead us into a blessed future.

Hershey's Kiss: The love of family and friends that seetens our lives.

Just Like Dad

Syd LOVES to be just like Daddy. A month ago they sent out the information for the Grand Prix. We asked Syd if she wanted to race just like Dad did back in the day. Her answer...."nope." We were shocked. Fast forward to 7 days ago and she is freaking about this race and she wants to be in it.....UGH. Really!!!??? You had 30 days and now we only have 7!!!!!She and Daddy pulled it off and got the car done. Below is a picture of her car and Tom's from 1985.

There was a lot of drama when we got to the race tonight. Her car was too heavy and she was going to be disqualified. There was a Dad there with a tool box. He pulled out his dremel and hollowed out the underside of the car. He saved us! Syd will be sending a thank you note this week.

Syd raced 4times.....3rd place in one and 2nd place in three other races....averaged out to a 3rd place finish.

Sydney and Tom with their trophies....Daddy with a 3rd place win back in 1985 and Syd with a 3rd place win tonight.

We Survived

We survived our first Youth Group activity. When I say this to Madi she just rolls her eyes at me. She had a blast! It was called Black Out Madness and you had to wear as much white as possible. Theyhad black lights to make the kids glow. Most of the snacks were white so they glowed too. We got threre at the end of the night to see the toilet paper fight and it was something to see.....100 plus middle school kids glowing in the dark throwing toilet paper into the air.

We used:

-electrical tape on her pants with some of the fruits of the spirit.

-streamers on all of her belt loops.

-big white flower in her hair.

-electrical tape for Jesus on her t-shirt.
-white polish for her nails.

She had a great night and is still talking about it today!
